Snakes, Cakes and Comedy Mistakes
CSG’s Upper School Theater Department is taking on a new adventure in comedy this fall. They are
presenting Snakes, Cakes and Comedy Mistakes which is a festival of short comedic plays introduced by SNL style hosts. The 90 minute evening of laughs consists of nine short comedies written by local playwrights who collaborated with the Theater Department and were in residence to work with the students. Four students in the playwriting class worked as apprentices with playwrights Johnrick Hole, Vivan Lermond, Lia Eastep, and Dr. Frank Doden to create pieces and three Senior Thespians will each direct one. Topics parodied or poked fun include dysfunctional families, existential musings, the mad world of film noir, extreme characters, our universe, language and much, much more. The student ownership of the creation of the evening is exciting. Director/Producer Janetta Davis is working with the cast on comedy technique training and laughter is a daily part of the process. CSG alum Barbara Allen ’88, stopped in to teach the cast improv comedy styles. Amazingly, there 86 Upper School students involved on either cast or crew.
Snakes, Cakes and Comedy Mistakes will be presented in the Agnes Jeffery Shedd Theater, Thursday, November 15 @ 7:30pm; Friday, November 16 @ 7:30pm; Saturday, November 17 @ 2:00pm.
