Theater Partnerships

CSG Theater has nurtured many fruitful partnerships with local theater groups and artists. A long-standing collaboration has been with Actors’ Theatre of Columbus. Every other year, Actors’ and CSG Upper School present a joint production at CSG where the theater professionals work side-by-side with the students. The learning opportunity centers on our girls watching how professionals work and working with them as peers to create excellent theater. The keystone of their development as theater artists is enhanced by the opportunity to audition for or work tech for the Actors’ summer season in Schiller Park. In recent years students have played Hamlet (to rave reviews), Juliet, and numerous smaller roles. Our stage managers have the opportunity to assist in stage management for Actors’ and move up to Stage Manager the following season, gaining real world experience.

We also bring in other guest artists to the Upper and Middle School classes, such as movement, make up, and film, and improve specialists including Jennifer Milligan, choreography and Viewpoints workshop; Barbara Allen, Improv workshop; Deb Brommer, stage make up workshop; and Julie Janata, film workshop.

The Lower School has a collaborative relationship with CATCO (Contemporary American Theatre Company) CATCO works with Lower School After Hours students in January to create and perform an original musical to present to parents. The piece is student-created with the guidance and knowledge of the Artistic Director of CATCO is KIDS, Joe Bishara. Each student feels ownership and pride in the work they create.
