When will campus re-open?

CSG is operating under a campus closure mandated by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. CSG’s Administrative Team will monitor CDC and local government guidelines while evaluating the re-opening of campus. Families, visitors, and students may not access campus during the mandated campus closure.

 

Who do I contact if I have a question during Distance Learning?

Please direct questions about distance learning in a particular division to the appropriate division director listed below. During the stay home order, it is best to reach them by email. If you call and leave a message, the message will be forwarded to their email address. If you have a question specific to your child please reach out by email  to your child’s teacher or advisor.

Is the main switchboard open to the community?

During the stay home order, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., calls to CSG’s main number 614-252-0781 will go to our main desk receptionist. She will either return your call or direct it to the appropriate faculty or staff member for response.  

What is the status of CSG events?

Effective immediately, all events hosted by CSG or scheduled to be held at a CSG facility between now and Friday, May 1 will be postponed or cancelled. We will communicate about future events after that date and in our regular updates. Rescheduling of events will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will depend on CDC and government guidelines. 

 

When will my daughter be able to participate on her spring sports team, and will we still receive our spring sports spirit wear?

We are currently in a No Contact period, which means our coaches cannot conduct practices until Friday, May 1. Our spring coaches will keep each team updated as we know more. Spring spirit wear has been completed and we will plan to distribute it when the school is once again open to our community. 

How will distance learning work for students?

Will my child be on a screen all day long?

The amount of screen time will vary, depending on the child’s age and grade, and we are cognizant of concerns about potential screen fatigue. Our expert teaching faculty have designed a distance learning plan that is developmentally appropriate. Breaks, off-screen time, wellness, physical activity, and social connections are all part of the Distance Learning Plan for our students. 

 

How will my child receive learning support and/or counseling support?

The CSG PK-12 Distance Learning Plan includes plans for learning support and counseling support. Support will be dependent on each child’s specific needs. Counselors and learning support staff will be available by email to support students and/or families. You will also be able to schedule virtual meetings as needed.

What can my family or CSG community members do to help those in need?

As  needs arise in our community and the greater central Ohio community, we will make you aware. The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, the YWCA, United Way of Central Ohio, The Columbus Foundation, and other organizations have compiled lists of places needing help to support central Ohio families.  

 

What is the type and frequency of communication that I can expect to receive from CSG?

• The Head of School will communicate twice weekly (Monday and Thursdays) or more depending on situation through email or video 

• Division Directors will send emails and updates Tuesdays and Fridays

• A survey soliciting your feedback on the first week of distance learning will be sent by email Thursday, April 2nd. 

 

Will families receive a tuition refund while students are not on campus?

Our faculty and staff are as committed as ever to maintaining excellent teaching and learning during this time. Our distance learning plan is an all hands-on-deck approach with our school nurse, technology team, faculty, maintenance technicians, and administrative staff putting in countless hours to ensure our students have the optimal learning environment at home. Teaching and learning will continue and therefore CSG will continue to collect the annual tuition. Families who are experiencing an extreme hardship due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic should contact Chief Financial Officer, Julie Eikenberry, or Director of Enrollment Management, Chelsea Woods, to receive information about Tuition Assistance or about restructuring your current payment plan. Email is the best way to reach them until the stay home order is lifted.

What if my child needs school-related technology help during distance learning?

Tech Help is available from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Families needing tech assistance should email the help desk at itdepartment@columbusschoolforgirls.org. 

 

Will the school nurse be available to help families during Distance Learning?

CSG's school nurse, Jen Salamon,  will be available by email to answer questions and provide guidance for families.

 

My child left an item at school, how can I retrieve it?

Families are encouraged not to visit campus during the mandated school closure. Please contact your child’s division director so we can arrange pickup if the item(s) needed is crucial to your child’s distance learning plan. If arrangements are made, we ask that you follow CSG’s travel/COVID-19 contact restrictions released March 12th before coming to campus. We ask that retrieval of items not essential for learning be left until school reopens. 

 

What is the plan for AP testing?

College Board has already made alternative plans for AP exams and has communicated directly with any student enrolled in an AP course. 

 

What is the difference between homeschooling and Distance Learning?

Many social media outlets have posts about how we are all “home-schooling” now. Please know this is not the case at CSG. In true homeschooling, the parents select and develop the curriculum, prepare the lessons, teach all of the material, manage assessments, etc. While we will definitely rely on parent partnership during this time, CSG faculty are the classroom teachers. They will develop curriculum, work one-on-one or in small groups with students, and communicate with parents about concerns. We are in a distance learning situation, but lean on us as the academic experts!

 

How can I support my children during the distance learning plan?

CSG understands that a shift to a distance learning approach will require our students and families to make adjustments. Yet a continued partnership with parents and guardians can play a vital part of ensuring the success of the plan. Division Directors, learning support staff, the technology department, and teachers are all available to support and guide students (and parents/guardians/caregivers) should they need help. Below are some guidelines for parents/guardians/caregivers to help students achieve success with distance learning. Overall, we encourage you to embrace this time at home as a new adventure with great possibilities. Teaching and learning will be managed primarily by CSG’s educators in partnership with their students.
