Weekly Update - October 9, 2020 In this issue: Wellness Wednesday Update, Middle School Play Opening Night, International Day of the Girl Wellness Wednesday Update CSG recently conducted a survey about this year's Wellness Wednesday programming. Thank you to the nearly 640 parents, students, faculty, and staff who responded. Survey results demonstrated that the majority of the nearly 640 survey respondents are in support of continuing the program. So how will we move forward with Wellness Wednesdays? Tonight! Middle School Play - It's Opening Night on YouTube! This year the Middle School Fall play is an all virtual affair. Performances include monologues and scenes from Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Alice's Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carol, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin. International Day of the Girl International Day of the Girl - My Voice, Our Equal Future Sunday, October 11, is International Day of the Girl, an annual global celebration of girls' voices, stories, and contributions to the world! This year's theme, "My Voice, Our Equal Future," explores how we can "seize the opportunity to be inspired by what adolescent girls see as the change they want...across the globe." It is a collective pursuit everyday here at CSG and this past week, students across divisions explored their voices, contributions, and local and global perspectives. Lower School Explores Girls Issues Around the Globe In Lower School, students engaged in conversations connected with the IDG theme to begin to understand the challenges girls around the globe face, especially in regards to equal opportunity for education. Following book discussion and classroom brainstorming, the girls identified what they feel passionate about and answered the writing prompt, "What is your hope for the world right now?" The writing the girls began today will continue into further project work tying in with our year-long theme, Lift your Voice.Additionally, on Wednesday, CSG alumna, Dr. Carlotta Penn'99, author of The Turtle with an Afro, shared with students at chapel the importance of writing their own stories proudly, while learning the stories of people who are different from them.
Middle School Watches Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl) In Middle School, students watched and discussed Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl). The viewings were followed by lessons and discussions in this week's Wellness Wednesday and advisory programming.
NCGS Highlights the Global Power of Educating Girls The National Coalition of Girls Schools, of which CSG is a member, highlights a primary goal of the International Day of the Girl: investing in the education of girls. Girl Rising Presents a Virtual International Day of the Girl Summit This Saturday, Girl Rising is putting on a 12 hour virtual summit in celebration of International Day of the Girl. Girl Rising, a non profit dedicated to educating and empowering girls around the world, is led by former CSG student, Christina Lowery '89. Offerings will include inspiring speakers, film viewings, panel discussions, and workshops on the intersection of Girls' Education and today's leading concerns. There will also be creative time with music, dance and crafts. Learn more and register here.
Girls Leadership Virtual Celebration of International Day of the Girl Girls Leadership is celebrating the power and leadership of girls through an inspiring, interactive event. Girls will get the opportunity to try new methods of expression and leadership skills, participating in a workshop of their choice hosted by Girls Leadership or one of our community partners. Don't Forget This Sunday! Panel Discussion- Conversations about Mental Health and Tech Addiction The Social Dilemma, a documentary about mental health and technology. By providing dramatized examples of how persuasive technology is working on us all, the film has already provoked important conversations for parents and kids. On Sunday, Oct. 11th, Common Sense Media is hosting a panel conversation, featuring the filmmaker, a journalist, a Common Sense editor, and a teen voice, which will spark ongoing discussions in your households on topics close to all of our hearts. Date Change: Elections and Your Child-- Now Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom Join us to learn strategies and recommendations from Libby Steele and Mathew Dunatchik from Gestalt Columbus on how to navigate the political season with young children. Update-Family Movie Night at CSG *All CDC recommendations will be followed at the event and masks will be required as is the policy for all on CSG's campus. Squares are selling fast for Family Movie Night, Thursday, October 22nd. The Parents' Association will be showing two feature films, simultaneously, under the stars in two locations on campus. Sing will begin playing at 7:30pm and Mamma Mia! will begin playing at 8:00pm. 8' x 8' square seating areas, accommodate up to 6 people, are selling for $30. Squares will be located 10 feet apart allowing for sufficient spacing and will be preassigned on a first come, first served basis. Efforts will be taken to seat Forms in the same area. Space is limited, so buy your square now! A concession stand will be selling prepackaged snacks and water. Need a blanket to sit upon or a sweatshirt to keep warm? Buy one from the Unicorner when you check out! Note: Parent/Teacher conferences are the following day, so you can sleep in the following morning!
Athletics Congrats Golf Team! CSG's Varsity Golf team won the OHSAA Central District Tournament and will advance on to states at OSU Golf Course on October 16–17 for the second year straight!! This is the 5th time CSG has qualified for the golf state tournament. Great job and best of luck unicorns!
