Weekly Update - October 2, 2020 Scholarship Walk Moved to Spring The annual Scholarship Walk, originally scheduled for October 9th, has been moved to spring this year in hopes that the event can take place once the pandemic has stabilized. Since 1972, the Scholarship Walk has been a beloved tradition at CSG and an opportunity for the students and faculty to pull together in their commitment to supporting the school's scholarship. The Scholarship Walk committee will share more details later this school year.
Last Chance to Vote - Olive Tree Foundation for Girls Vying for State Farm Grant Founded by alumna Kim Hall '91, The Olive Tree Foundation for Girls (OTFG) Program sponsors group enrichment activities that develop positive self-image, character, and resiliency in high school girls, and in particular, students at CSG. Panel Discussion- Conversations about Mental Health and Tech Addiction CSG's Director of Counseling and Wellness, Sean Delaney is encouraging parents to check out The Social Dilemma, one of 2020's most impactful documentaries. The film tees up timely conversations about mental health and technology. By providing dramatized examples of how persuasive technology is working on us all, the film has already provoked important conversations for parents and kids. On Sunday, Oct. 11th, Common Sense Media is hosting a panel conversation, featuring the filmmaker, a journalist, a Common Sense editor, and a teen voice, which will spark ongoing discussions in your households on topics close to all of our hearts. School Picture Day for Retakes and CSG at Home Students School pictures are October 20th for CSG at Home families and for retakes. CSG at Home families should plan to arrive at school (main entrance- Drexel) between 8:00am and 3:00pm. Parents will not be allowed in the building. Parents' Association Family Movie Night at CSG On Thursday, October 22nd the Parents' Association will be showing two feature films, simultaneously, under the stars in two locations on campus. Sing will begin playing at 7:30pm in the Spirit Courtyard and Mamma Mia! will begin playing at 8:00pm on Geupel Field. 8' x 8' square seating areas are selling for $30. A square can accommodate up to 6 people (non-family may sit together). Squares will be located 10 feet apart allowing for sufficient aisles and will be preassigned on a first come, first served basis. Efforts will be taken to seat Forms together. Space is limited, so buy your square now! A concession stand will be selling prepackaged snacks and water. Need a blanket to sit upon or a sweatshirt to keep warm? Buy one from the Unicorner when you check out! Note: Parent/Teacher conferences are the following day, so you can sleep in the following morning!
Volunteer Needed- Treasurer for the Unicorner Store The Parents' Association (PA) is looking for a Unicorner Store Treasurer to start as soon as possible. This role works closely with the managers of the Unicorner and maintains accurate records of all vendor purchases and financial disbursements for the Unicorner. The Unicorner Treasurer presents a current financial statement at each PA Board meeting (monthly), and maintains records to be used for an audit prior to the end of the school year. The new Unicorner Treasurer will become the treasurer of the PA next year. Knowledge of Excel is a must. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month. Coming Up Middle School Students to speak with Salva Dut, Founder of Water for South Sudan After placing 4th in the Iron Giraffe Challenge sponsored by Water for South Sudan last school year, next week Form VIII will have the opportunity to meet Water for South Sudan founder, Salva Dut. Dut is one of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan, whose story was shared in Linda Sue Park's New York Times bestselling novel A Long Walk to Water. The book is studied in Ms. Beth Garcia's Form VII humanities class. After reading the book and learning about philanthropy as part of the unit, the Class of 2025 brainstormed and planned a fundraiser where they raised $2,026 to Water for South Sudan. "This was truly remarkable," said Ms. Garcia, and a great demonstration of the dedication, kindness, and generosity of the CSG community. The work the girls all did was meaningful and inspiring!" Form VIII students will be joined by the current Form VII class, who will read the book and start the unit in their English class soon.
Middle School Play- Opening Night is October 9 on Zoom! This year the Middle School Fall play is an all virtual affair. Middle School Cabaret 2020 includes monologues and scenes from Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Alice's Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carol, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin. The streaming will start at 7:00pm on October 9 and will remain open for you to watch at your convenience on our YouTube channel.

Athletics Varsity Golf Wins Sectional Championship! Congratulations to our Varsity Golf Team for winning the OHSAA Sectional Championship with a score of 346, 20 strokes ahead of second place Columbus Academy. Kate Kramer '21 was medalist with a 74 and Caroline Kromalic '21 was runner-up with an 83. Best of luck in Districts at Darby Creek Golf Course on Monday!
