Upper School

A Letter from the Upper School Director

Dear Upper School Families,

Whether you are a CSG lifer or a relative newcomer like me, there was a LOT to learn from our lower school students last week in the CSG Eras Tour that was a featured part of the annual amazement that is CSG’s Children’s Book Week. I had the chance not only to deepen my understanding and appreciation of CSG’s rich history but to be amazed by the confidence and public speaking skills of our lower school students. I am very excited to work with these terrific students during their future years in the upper school. Today’s Scholarship Walk, the history of which was included in my student-led tour through CSG’s 125 year history, felt like an especially apt end to a terrific week, all of which embraced and lived out our school theme this year. CSG is anchored by a great tradition in building for a bold future.

Next week we are excited to induct our graduating seniors into CSG’s Alumnae Association. We are also looking forward to the annual Cum Laude Induction Ceremony, which will include a keynote address from CSG alumna Cynthia Yenkin ’63. Ms. Levison has dedicated her career to educating and motivating young people to work toward social change. An author of nonfiction books for young readers focusing on social justice, her books include The Youngest Marcher, The People’s Painter, and Fault Lines in the Constitution, among others. From civil rights, to social activism, to environmental conservation, Cynthia has been instrumental in showing young people the power of empathy and the vital importance of amplifying marginalized voices. Her writing has earned her recognition and awards from the NAACP, the American Library Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English, among other organizations.

Please also note that Thursday is our Spring Music Concert at 7:00 pm. We are also opening the Science Research & Engineering Symposium on Thursday the afternoon of Thursday, April 25. Open for two weeks, the symposium consists of technical posters of MS & US student work conducted both inside and outside of the classroom. The posters will be on display in Beaton Library and the surrounding hallways. Each poster will have a QR code posted next to it that links to an audio recording of the student talking the listener through their project and the content of the poster. Posters will remain up until the end of the day on Friday, May 10.

Wednesday: Cum Laude Induction

Thursday: Spring Music Concert 7:00 pm

Friday: Alumnae Association Induction Ceremony for CSG’s Class of ‘24. After the induction ceremony, the seniors will take part in an Alumnae and Student Networking Reception

Take care,

Scott Parsons
Upper School Director
