Middle School

Letter from the Middle School Director

April 19, 2024

Dear Middle School Families,

On Monday morning, I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Simone in Form V and learning all about CSG's 125-year history. Even after 19 years of working here, I still learn new things every day about this amazing school, its founders, and their vision. We learned about the different buildings and classrooms, the various uniforms, and how the rules have changed. But, most importantly, we talked about the one thing that has remained constant; the founder’s vision and still our current mission - the importance of girls discovering their distinct potential as learners and leaders. All week, we've passed by the detailed displays in the hallways and soaked in our rich history. Then the week ended with our annual Scholarship Walk. How fitting it was that we ended the week walking together as an entire school to raise funds for our scholarship program that helps provide the opportunity for more girls to be able to experience CSG!

Please be sure to check out the NEED TO KNOW. Included is an important list of dates for May that you’ll want to put on your calendar. With only six weeks left in the school year, the time will fly by quickly!  Have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Pam Hartshorne
Middle School Director

CONFERENCE SCHEDULING OPEN
Our May 10th conferences are portfolio conferences led by your daughters! Sign-ups opened Tuesday, April 16th at noon, and they will remain open until Tuesday, May 7th at noon. You can sign up with Pick-A-Time.  Students have been hard at work on their portfolios, and we are excited for them to share their work with you!

Form VIII Students & Parents:  Directly following the conference, please plan to meet with a member of the Upper School Faculty in the Middle School Commons to complete course requests for Form IX.  We anticipate the process for both the conference and the course request to take about one hour.

If that day does not work for your family, please reach out directly to the advisor to find another time. Because these are student-led conferences, we will hold them in person, and your daughter will need to attend - in official uniform.

MS/US SCIENCE RESEARCH & ENGINEERING SYMPOSIUM
Starting on the afternoon of Thursday, April 25, and lasting through May 10, technical posters of MS & US student work conducted both inside and outside of the classroom will be on display in Beaton Library and the surrounding hallways. Each poster will have a QR code posted next to it that links to an audio recording of the student talking the listener through their project and the content of the poster. Think of it like a self-guided museum tour for science and engineering! We invite the CSG community to interact with the posters in the coming weeks.

MS HER HACK - APRIL 20
Join Middle School girls from across central Ohio as they gather for the first annual MS HER Hack!  Form teams, brainstorm ideas.   Create a company.  Design your own logo and branding.  Code your MVP in Python.  Compete for prizes!   For more information visit the HER Academy website.

MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE - APRIL 20
Help us spread the word about our open house designed for Middle and Upper School students on Saturday, April 20, from 10am to noon. During this casual event, families can explore our spaces at CSG and learn more about programming and opportunities by attending an informative panel. Tours begin at 10:15 and 11:15am, with the panel at 10:45am. Reach out to families you know, and please share on social media! Families can register online here

125th JUBILEE
In honor of CSG’s Anniversary, we will be hosting a party 125 years in the making! This black-tie-optional affair will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 6:30-10pm on our main campus and will feature a live band, decadent food, and an open bar. Tickets for this event are $125 each and can be purchased here. We hope you can join us for this momentous occasion and it's going to be an amazing evening!

ALL-SCHOOL ARTS NIGHT & EMPTY BOWLS - MAY 2
Join us for our second annual all-school Arts Night on Thursday, May 2, from 3:30-6:00pm on our main campus. This open house event is a special opportunity to see the amazing work that our students have been creating in their art classes! This year, our Arts Night will also feature the opportunity to contribute to CSG's Empty Bowls fundraiser and purchase beautiful, handmade clay bowls to help raise money for charitable organizations to feed those in need.

SUMMER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT BEXLEY LIBRARY
The Bexley Library are looking for volunteers to help out over the summer. They need lots of help from signing families up for our Summer Reading and handing out prizes to assisting with programs and helping out in the youth department.  Interested students should apply online by June 3.  If students have any questions, they can email teen@bexleylibrary.org or call the youth department at 614-231-2878.

NOTRE DAME SUMMER SCIENCE CAMPS
Notre Dame would like to invite your students to register for a Summer Science Camp at the DNA Learning Center at Notre Dame. The DNA Learning Center is a non-profit educational facility dedicated to providing a hands-on environment where scientists of all ages and skill levels can explore their passion for science, especially in the world of Genetics. Our Residential Camps are designed for students completing grades 7-10, while the virtual camp is for students completing grades 9 and up.  Residential campers have the opportunity to live in Notre Dame dorms, dine at on-campus dining halls, and experience all things Notre Dame. Camp counsellors are current college students, and all lab activities are led by ND faculty. Some of the experiments the DNALC performs during Summer Camps include genotyping, plant barcoding, forensics, and ancestry sequencing.  Additionally, we are offering a Virtual summer camp for those who are unable to travel to Notre Dame. Conducted entirely online, this program is facilitated by a genetics professor from ND, ensuring a live and interactive experience. No previous knowledge is required; we simply ask campers to have an interest in genetics, lab techniques, or science in general!  Please contact AdminDNACenter@nd.edu with any questions.

ID BADGES & LANYARDS

Students do not have access to school after hours, except in cases of extracurricular activities where coaches have made special arrangements to do so. Badges/Lanyards are considered part of the uniform, and students should wear them every day. Lost badges should be reported immediately to Division Directors, Advisors or Divisional Administrative Assistants.
