Meet the Director
As the Director of the Center for Girls’ & Young Women’s Leadership, Megan Smeeding looks forward to expanding opportunities for students across all divisions to develop agency, resilience, and confidence as leaders. She is especially excited to strengthen community partnerships and align leadership experiences to CSG’s core competencies so that every student is equipped to lead with purpose.
Megan joined CSG in 2022 as an Upper School History Teacher and Form Dean for the Class of 2027. Prior to CSG, she served as Dean of Instruction at KIPP Columbus High School. Earlier in her career, she spent several years in Chicago at Muchin College Prep, serving as the Social Science Department Chair. While at Muchin, she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2018 and named a Noble Network Distinguished Teacher in 2019, the highest recognition across the network for exceptional student growth, instructional rigor, and extended community impact.
Megan holds a BA in Secondary Education and History from Loyola University of Chicago and an MA in American History from Pace University.
About the CGYWL Program
The Center for Girls’ & Young Women’s Leadership (CGYWL) provides research-driven programming and experiential learning to cultivate confident, poised, healthy, and capable young women.
We believe all young women have the capacity to develop leadership skills no matter their professional aspiration. Most importantly, we believe young women have the confidence to lead themselves. Based on their personal values, each CSG student cultivates their unique and authentic leadership style to make the spaces they occupy better. In all things, we encourage the mindset of “when, not if” they have a seat at the table.
Students will benefit from enjoying an annual speaker series, special programs, and experiential learning that center their voices and leadership development; as well as an array of curricular enhancements and strategic partnerships to expose our young women to opportunities and female mentorship.
As they take advantage of unique programmatic opportunities to expand their leadership skills, students will become skilled at carrying themselves with confidence. As they grow more comfortable using their voices, they will more adeptly be able to articulate their goals and needs, cooperate with others, and effectively lead their peers. The CGYWL is the premier program in central Ohio in which girls can foster the skills and practices necessary to move through their world with strength and grace.
