International Day of the Girl
"In 2011, as the result of youth advocacy around the world, the United Nations declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl. Its mission is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.” It’s a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere."
CSG students and Middle School Director, Nola-Rae Cronan, will be hosting google hangouts throughout the day (October 11) to connect classrooms of girls around the world on the topic of GIRLS! Sessions will be jointly facilitated by students and special guests. Sessions will offer students an opportunity to learn about life across boarders and continents; favorite music, traditions, school subjects and how life as a girl may be represented differently or the same. In addition, students will be discussing this years International Day of the Girl theme #justiceforgirls. In our groups we will talk about the ways in which we stand up to injustice against girls.
