On Friday, August 27, the CSG community came together in person and via livestream for the 2021 Convocation ceremony, which marked the official start of the 2021-2022 school year and honored the Class of 2022 as they began their final year as students at CSG.
Convocation is a beloved tradition at CSG going back to the 1966-1967 school year. It is a time for the entire school community to listen to messages from the Head of School and Student Council Presidents in the formal assembly style, complete with flags, service, and official uniforms.
In her remarks, Upper School Student Council President, Cynthia Alexander, ‘22, reflected on what it means to be back together as a community on campus following the 2020-2021 school year, when CSG and the world learned to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Cynthia continued, saying, “Even though last year was hard, let’s not forget the lessons that COVID taught us: that slowing down is good,” and that there’s a balance to be struck between the stagnant uncertainty of COVID and the usual stresses of senior year.
Head of School, Jennifer Ciccarelli, highlighted the theme for the 2021-2022 school year: Growing Forward. As Jennifer explained in her remarks, “The concept of growing forward comes, in part, from one of CSG’s core values: We operate with a growth mindset.” Leading with kindness, listening to one another with the goal of understanding diverse points of view, and intentionally building community are some of our goals for this year, and by focusing on these goals, the CSG community will continue to thrive.
Following the ceremony, the community gathered outside for an ice cream social.
As CSG settles into this school year, we are focused on providing the excellent academic environment for which CSG is known, while also providing space and opportunities for our community to connect. If you weren’t able to attend this year’s Convocation ceremony, we invite you to view the recorded livestream here.
