CSG junior starts nonprofit organization

Though Yori O’Neal ’24 didn’t have class during winter break, she kept plenty busy, starting a nonprofit organization with the mission to provide clothing, shoes, and personal care items to children to give them their “needs to succeed.”

O’Neal founded Valorie Jean’s Care Closet with her brother, Cameron, in memory of their late grandmother, Valorie Jean Dillard, who died in November of 2020 from COVID-19. The oldest of 13 siblings, Valorie started taking care of her family from a young age.

“She always made sure we had everything,” O’Neal said.

Inspired to continue Valorie's legacy, O’Neal and her brother over winter break raised money to purchase clothes for several students facing clothing insecurity at World Language Middle School. The two delivered the clothing December 20, and started Valorie Jean’s Care Closet to enable them to raise money and awareness to carry out similar acts of service elsewhere in central Ohio.
