Alice in Wonderland & The Mad Hatter Tea Party Details
Posted October 28, 2010, Archived November 17, 2010
The Columbus School for Girls Upper School Theater Department brings the curtain up on the magical journey of Alice in Wonderland from November 11th through the 14th. There also will be a Mad Hatter’s Tea party held for the little ones on Sunday, November 14th at 3:00 pm. See the Alice in Wonderland commerical created by Senior Tarayn Sanders.
Lewis Carroll’s classic book has been adapted for the stage by Jeannette Jaquish. The production will be directed by Janetta Davis, US Theater Director, and stage managed by CSG student, Shelby Williams, with scenic design by Clapp and Campbell, lighting design by Barb Young, and puppet design by Rodney Reese. This theatrical staging of Lewis Carroll’s surreal journey will be inventive, youthful yet intriguing for adults, and delightfully full of magic and fun special effects. Alice is portrayed by CSG senior, Lucy Groeber, as a young girl who, through her wondrous experience, grows from an impulsive, stubborn young girl into a witty, brave, thoughtful young lady. The large cast plays a myriad of fantastical creatures with imaginative and crazy costumes.
Alice in Wonderland is wildly popular because Carroll wrote a logical plot that is framed in nonsense and splattered with symbolism which becomes a celebration of language and childhood imagination. It reminds all of us to believe in the extraordinary as well as in our own dreams. The adaptation by Jaquish has stayed true to the characters, plot, mood, and intellectual humor of the book.
All performances will be held in the Agnes Shedd Theater at Columbus School for Girls, 56 S. Columbia Ave. in Bexley. Tickets ordering is on the CSG website at www.columbusschoolforgirls.org or purchased at the door one hour before curtain while tickets are still available.
