A Visit to Cynthia's Woods

On Monday, October 8, members of the Program for Young Children (PYC) 5/6 class donned their boots, bundled up and headed out to a very special place known as Cynthia's Woods.
Cynthia's Woods is Columbus School for Girls' privately owned nature park in Gahanna. The land was donated by Mr. Joe Jeffrey in memory of his first wife, Cynthia. Cynthia was a member of the class of 1954 and the land was donated shortly after her death. The class of 1954 then raised money for their 50th Reunion to build the classroom at Cynthia's Woods. The Class of 1955 raised money to furnish the classroom for their 50th reunion.
Mr. Jeffrey has since remarried, Gibby, and she is an honorary member of the class of 1954. Cynthia's Woods is a place the girls can explore nature without some of the limits and boundaries of a public park. The girls can move materials, climb on the trees and rocks, and go off the trail.
On Monday, October 8 Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey, and members of the class of 1954, Connie Aldrich Bodiker, Mary Jane Dawes Bolon, Babette Abel Feibel, Sally Byers Sugar and her husband Jack met at Cynthia's Woods and had the privilege of meeting the 5/6 class. The girls showed them their nature findings, made music using leaves and limbs, and shared their experience. It was a beautiful fall day and the girls were excited to share what they saw, felt, and heard with their guests.
Cynthia's Woods is indeed a very magical place for our girls and the Columbus School for Girls is grateful for the generous donation of Mr. Jeffrey and the classes of 1954 and 1955.
