Checkmate! Lower School Girls Learn Chess at Lunch

Posted September 11, 2012

Twenty-four girls in Forms I-III had a terrific time playing chess and enjoying lunch on September 5 during the Chess Club. It is a wonderful opportunity for building community as more experienced chess players play with those who are just beginning. The girls learned a lot about chess rules and strategy with Karen Chernesky, After Hours chess instructor, Beth Abramovitz, Middle School Librarian and Chess facilitator, and James Jeffers, Lower School parent. This opportunity is available each month with the hopes to get all girls interested in playing chess in the months of October and November. With the large interest demonstrated by the girls, we are looking at additional ways to have other informal opportunities offered during recesses.

If your daughter would like to sign up for the After Hours Chess class on Wednesday afternoons, please contact Linda Resch. Photos from the Chess Club are available online.
