Students Continue to Lobby for HB 501

Posted May 10, 2012

Forms IV and VI work with the HB 501, which would officially make the Adena Pipe the Ohio state artifact, makes news again on the Ohio Archaeology blogspot through the Ohio Historical Society. Please click on the link to see how student renditions of the Adena Pipe connects with Ohio artist, Charley Harper’s collage of archaeological masterpieces. If you look closely, he placed the Adena Effigy Pipe at the center of the composition. The students have been encouraged that HB 501 will be considered as they receive positive and supportive letters back from their representatives.

The students are not only learning about the steps of how a bill becomes a law in our state, but they also have learned about the importance of preserving and honoring our state’s history.

Attached are photos of our girls when they visited the Ohio Historical Society, along with Representative Carney and Brad Lepper, the head archaeologist at the Ohio Historical Society. The photograph taken with the Adena Pipe, which will be used as publicity to help lobby for this bill.

We ask that you might consider working with the classes of 2018 and 2020 by writing your local representative and senator in support of this bill. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Tracy Kessler, tkessler@columbusschoolforgirls.org, or Charlotte Stiverson, cstiverson@columbusschoolforgirls.org.
