  • Adena Pipe officially the Ohio state artifact

    Girls in Form VII, V, and IV packed into the Senate Finance Hearing Room at the Ohio Statehouse this afternoon to witness Governor John R. Kasich sign the Adena Pipe bill into law. Senator Bacon, Representative Duffy, Burt Logan from the Ohio Historical Society and CSG teachers Charlotte Stiverson and Tracy Kessler made remarks about the importance of this artifact and the girls unwavering determination to see this legislation through.   • Honk, Jr.! opens Friday, May 3

    HONK, Jr.! opens Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. Grab the kids and come join us for the Columbus School for Girls Middle School Theater production of HONK, Jr.! Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale has been transformed into a modern musical comedy appropriate for everyone in the family. Written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, HONK, Jr.! tells the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from her family and neighbors. Runs May 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. in the Agnes Shedd Theater. All tickets are $4 at the door.

    Ben Gelber with NBC4 news was on campus today to interview some of our girls about their work on the Adena Pipe bill, which has now passed both the Ohio House and Senate. The bill awaits Governor Kasich’s signature to become law, making the Adena Pipe the official artifact for the state of Ohio.

    Today the Ohio House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of Senate Bill 33, which would designate the Adena Effigy Pipe as Ohio’s official state artifact.

  • Edible Book Festival Tasty Success

    The Edible Book Festival held yesterday, April 23, was a huge success. Eighty-five entries were received across all divisions. The entries could be literal or figurative and had to consist of edible components- cakes, pies, cookies, fruits, vegetables, and more. The librarians were more than pleased with the great turnout and overwhelming creativity! A distinguished panel of judges reviewed each entry and four winners were selected.

  • CSG One Step Closer to Making History

    Yesterday, April 10, CSG took one step closer to making history. Senate Bill 33 was passed unanimously. This long fought quest to make the Adena Pipe the official state artifiact of Ohio originally introduced by girls in the Class of 2018 will now head to the House.

  • Veronica Ross '20 to travel to Sweden this summer

    It is not often an eleven year old travels internationally and spends a month away from her family. But that is exactly what Form V student Veronica Ross will be doing this summer. Veronica has been selected as a delegate from the United States to join 12 other delegations from around the world at the summer village in Sweden as a part of the Building Global Friendships/Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV).

  • Girls challenged to prevent ice cores from melting

    Girls in Mrs. Fries-Gaither's Form II science class have been working to determine how to prevent an ice core from melting during transportation from Antarctica back to research facilities such as the Byrd Polar Research Center in Columbus, Ohio.     As mathematics educators at all levels consider effective implementation and instruction related to state or Common Core standards, a frequently asked question is, “What does it mean to be fluent in mathematics?” The answer, more often than not, is, “Fast and accurate.” Building fluency should involve more than speed and accuracy. It must reach beyond procedures and computation.
