  • Honk, Jr.! opens Friday, May 3

    HONK, Jr.! opens Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. Grab the kids and come join us for the Columbus School for Girls Middle School Theater production of HONK, Jr.! Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale has been transformed into a modern musical comedy appropriate for everyone in the family. Written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, HONK, Jr.! tells the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from her family and neighbors. Runs May 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. in the Agnes Shedd Theater. All tickets are $4 at the door.

    This summer you may be delighted to see some of Columbus School for Girls Upper School Theater students performing in productions cast by Actors' Theatre Columbus at Schiller Park. Actors’ Theatre of Columbus held auditions for their summer season earlier this month and well over 100 auditionees turned out for the auditions including professionals and college students studying theater.

    Columbus School for Girls Upper School Theater is proud to present a joint production of The Crucible with Actors' Theatre Columbus. The Crucible, by American playwright Arthur Miller, is a dramatization of the infamous Salem witch trials that took place during 1692 and 1693. Performance dates are: February 28 and March 1, 2, and 3, 2013. All performances will be held in CSG’s Agnes Shedd Theater, 56 S. Columbia Ave., Bexley.

Overview

Theater arts courses enable students to explore theatrical and musical literature in situations that encourage collaborative work in order to build skill in ensemble and rehearsal technique and problem solving strategies. Creativity, and risk-taking are encouraged as students develop confidence in their abilities.

Students will have the opportunity to build and refine technique, develop analytical and critical skills, and build a written and performing vocabulary of expression. Theater classes allow students to increase their involvement and appreciation for the process of the art form, as well as the final product.
