Program for Young Children

The Program for Young Children music program is experiential and activities-focused. The children learn about music through participation in singing, movement, music games, instrument playing, and integrated music activities with other content areas. The girls recorded a CD that supported the preservation of our natural resources. It was a huge success!

PYC 3/4 through PYC 5/6 (K)

INTRODUCTION TO RHYTHM, SINGING, DANCE, MOVEMENT:

Lower School

The Lower School music program is based on the educational philosophy of Zoltan Kodály, with an emphasis on singing, solfege, and music literacy. Activities and songs are grounded in American folk and multicultural music as well classical music of the masters. Each Form presents annually at a Lower School Chapel program, integrating a content theme studied in the classroom. Choir beings in Forms IV and V, and instrumental opportunities are offered with Strings in Forms III-V and Beginning Band in Form V.

Middle School

The Middle School offers general music to Forms VI-VIII. The National Standards are supported by the Orff-Schulwerk philosophy experienced in the following content areas: notational literacy, analysis, music of the masters, world music, movement, integrated activities with grade level topics, singing and instrument playing. Performance opportunities are also offered in Strings, Band and Choir. These ensembles regularly participate in activities sanctioned by the Ohio Music Education Association, such as Solo and Ensemble, festivals, and large group adjudication.

Upper School

The Upper School music program supports a variety of classroom academic music offerings such as music theory, music history, technology and music, and multiculturalism and music. Performance ensembles at this level focus on performance, theory, technique and repertoire. Students experience various genres and styles of literature for both large groups and small ensembles allowing students to achieve musical independence and excellence. The ensembles offered include: Strings, Strings Chamber Music Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Form IX Vocal Ensemble, and The Grace Notes (auditioned vocal ensemble). These ensembles regularly participate in activities sanctioned by the Ohio Music Education Association, such as Solo and Ensemble, festivals, district and state contest, and national level adjudications.
