What are the school demographics?

Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is a vibrant, all-girls, day school community of approximately 573 students from within a 40-mile radius of Columbus, as well as from several international countries. Students reflect diverse academic, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. With approximately 125 faculty and staff members, more than 65% of our faculty hold advanced degrees. An overall 9:1 student/faculty ratio ensure that students will receive attention appropriate to their academic, social, emotional, and physical well being.

Where is CSG located?

The eight-acre campus, located in Bexley, a suburb of Columbus, houses four divisions: Program for Young Children (preschool-kindergarten), Lower School (grades 1-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and Upper School (grades 9-12).

The address is: Map and Directions to CSG
56 S. Columbia Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43209

An athletic complex is located on Kirk Campus, a nearby property of over 70 acres, which houses field hockey and lacrosse fields, two soccer fields, tennis courts, a running track, nature trails, and a retreat house.

In addition, students often visit Cynthia’s Woods, a 100-acre property near Rocky Fork in Gahanna located only a few miles from the main campus. Cynthia’s Woods is preserved as a living laboratory for all CSG students as they explore various science, ecology, and nature topics.

Do the Girls wear uniforms?

All girls in preschool through high school wear a uniform with the Campbell plaid. The girls are all required to have an official uniform (sweater, tunic/skirt, blouse), which they wear for specific programs throughout the year. Students in each division have additional uniform options to choose from for regular school days (e.g. shorts, pants, sweatshirts, polo shirt, etc.).  Students in the Program for Young Children are asked to wear tennis shoes with their uniform, the rest of the school is asked to wear a brown shoe. The uniform frees the girls to come to school each day with the focus on what they are learning and sharing with their classmates, rather than what they are wearing.

What options are available to students who are interested in more than just academics?

Girls at CSG have a diverse array of interests and talents. They are involved in athletics, arts, and clubs. CSG offers 10 sports in the Upper School and Middle School and a variety of intramural athletic offerings for Grades 3-5.  During the 2010-2011 school year, 72% of our population in Grades 3-12 filled roster spaces for 36 sports teams.

There are at least two theater productions each year in the Upper School and Middle School. In addition, each grade in Lower School (grades 1-5) will put on a theater presentation to the rest of the Lower School and their parents highlighting a unit of study completed in their classroom.

There are also over 25 clubs available to students, particularly in the Upper and Middle School. Some of these clubs include: Robotics, Service Learning Club, Political Club, Foreign Language Clubs, Student Council, Honor Council, Student Admission Leadership Council, Thespian Society, Tae Kwan Do, Young Adult Fiction, Poetry Club, Ski Club, etc.  Additional information can be found in our Admission Guide under each division.

Where do CSG graduates attend college?

Each year we have 100% of our graduates going to college. Our class of 2010 (58 students) had 8 National Merit Semifinalists and National Merit Commended Scholars. When a young woman graduates from CSG she has a solid academic background and confidence to go to college and beyond. Girls attend a wide variety of colleges throughout the country. Our two experienced college counselors have a relationship with the college admission officers and look to provide our students with the best fit for college and help to solidify scholarship opportunities.

Is there diversity at CSG?

Yes—CSG is committed to a diverse student body representative of the city of Columbus. Currently our student body has 24% of student-of-color representation.  With a 1.8 million dollar financial aid budget, it is also committed to a socio-economically diverse student body, with over 23% of the student body receiving financial aid.

How is an application for admission reviewed?

An Admission Committee that includes a combination of teachers, administrators, and an Admission Director will consider all applicants who have completed the admission process. The first round of admission decisions will encompass all applicants who have completed the admission process by the published deadline. From that point on, applicants will be considered on a rolling-admission basis as there are openings.

Do you have a waitlist?

If openings are not available after a student successfully completes the admission process, the Admission Committee may offer to place her name on the waitlist. This student then becomes one of a pool of applicants whose files will be reviewed by the committee if an opening becomes available.
The waiting pool is not ranked.

Do you offer Child Care after the school day?

For enrolled students in the Program for Young Children (PYC) and Lower School, CSG offers a Before and After Hours Program of supervised care and enrichment classes. Class offerings include: cooking, swimming, knitting, Mandarin Chinese, Opera Columbus production, etc.

A supervised After Hours Program is available for enrolled Middle School students.  Girls have the opportunity to visit the school library or work in a supervised area.

  • Before Hours Program for PYC and Lower School: 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m. (no charge)
  • After Hours Program for Program for Young Children, Lower School, and Middle School: 3:30-6:00 p.m. ($14-$17 per day)

Do you offer a Summer Program?
