Frequently Asked Questions about the Upper School Service Requirements

One hour of service is equivalent to one service unit.

Service units may also be earned for CSG-sponsored activities in which the students contribution cannot be measured in hours. In these situations, students can earn a fixed number of service units by meeting or exceeding a predetermined minimum contribution. The maximum number of service units that may be earned through donations to CSG-sponsored activities is 10 units, over four years.

Community Service

Service units may be completed during the summer beginning with the summer prior to freshman year. Units earned in the summer will be counted towards the upcoming school year.

Students who complete the service requirement prior to graduation are still required to do an additional 10 units of service each year. For example, if a student has completed 60 service units at the end of her junior year, she must still perform 10 service units during the senior year.

Students transferring to CSGs Upper School after the freshman year will be required to complete 15 hours for each year for which they attend CSG.

To receive credit for service performed, the student must complete and turn in her service verification forms and a written yearly reflection to her academic advisor by the end of each academic year. (Paperwork for senior year must be completed prior to the student receiving her senior privileges.) The academic advisor will sign off on the service units earned at the end of each academic year.

The new requirement will be introduced according to the following schedule:

The Classes of 2008-2011 must meet the new 60 unit requirement.
