Testing
Most colleges require college admission testing, administered either by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), part of The College Board (SAT and SAT Subject Tests), or by the American College Testing Service (ACT).
While most colleges to which CSG students apply require the SAT and two or three SAT Subject Tests, many require or accept ACT. Consult college web sites, read college catalogues and viewbooks carefully, and ask college admission officers or the college counselor about individual colleges' requirements.
In order to ensure that all CSG students meet standard college admission testing requirements, the school recommends the program below.
Freshmen and Sophomores
- June SAT Subject Tests in any subject in which you have done well and will not take again, e.g., Biology. Consult with faculty and college counselor for individual guidance.
Freshmen
- PSAT in October as a diagnostic tool to help identify strong and weak areas.
Sophomores
- PSAT in October for practice.
Juniors
- PSAT in October, SAT in January or March, and May
- ACT in April and/or June
- SAT Subject Tests in June (Writing, Math, and another subject of your choosing)
Seniors
- ACT in October and/or December
- SAT in October and/or November SAT
- SAT Subject Tests in December to improve previous scores or to add areas where you have gained knowledge.
- Optional: SAT in January (Yes, many colleges will still accept.)
Registration materials are available in the US Conference Room; you may also register for the SAT or ACT online. Financial Aid students may receive fee waivers for one SAT, one set of SAT Subject Tests, and one ACT from the College Counselor.
Important: Seniors, you must have your test scores sent directly to the colleges by the testing agencies. EACH time you take a test, sign up for your scores to be sent for no additional cost. Test scores are accumulated; therefore, make sure you send your latest scores to the colleges to which you are applying.
For example, the November SAT score report will include any SAT and SAT Subject Tests you have ever taken. It will be sent to the colleges you list during registration for the November date. It will not be sent to colleges that you listed previously, unless you list them again.
