Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in grades pre-k through grade 12. CSG empowers girls to discover their distinct potential as learners and leaders. As a leader in the education of girls and young women, it is a vibrant community of more than 565 students, 135 faculty and staff, and 2,500 active alumnae. CSG's 8-acre academic campus in the beautiful Bexley neighborhood is a ten-minute drive from downtown Columbus, a city bustling with artistic, civic, and shopping experiences. Having just completed a strategic plan to guide the School's direction over the next several years, CSG offers an exceptional, student-centered academic experience with strong offerings in the arts, an impressive athletic program, and a health and wellness curriculum that is unique in Central Ohio. This combination of academics and skills ensures that CSG students will be well prepared for life beyond CSG.

Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire a full-time Lower School Reading Specialist for Grades 1-5 to begin in the 2017-2018 academic year. CSG offers a competitive salary, benefits, and professional opportunities and welcomes candidates who add to the racial, cultural, religious, and gender diversity of the school community.

Major Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide curricular support and professional development to homeroom teachers
  • Meet with ability groups to differentiate reading instruction one-on-one, in small groups, and within the classroom
  • Develop resources for and communicate with Lower School parents
  • Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities

Experience, Characteristics, Qualities:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Elementary School Education with a literacy/reading concentration; Master's degree preferred in an applicable area of academic focus
  • Strong candidates will have at least three years of teaching experience, preferably at an independent school
  • Training in systematic, multi-sensory language instruction and remediation, such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or other related programs.
  • Possess strong reading instruction practices
  • Demonstrate best practices in using technology in the classroom
  • Excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of children, and the ability to work well within a diverse, collaborative environment

Columbus School for Girls will be hiring a full-time Lower School homeroom teacher for the 2017-2018 academic school year. Candidates for the position should hold a bachelor's degree or higher with an elementary education certification. The Lower School homeroom teacher is responsible for actively engaging children in social studies, language arts, and math instruction. Strong classroom management skills, proficiency with classroom technology, differentiated instruction and flexibility are key components of the position. We seek an energetic teacher with an expansive background who is eager to build on a dynamic and evolving program by integrating 21st Century learning skills. The successful candidate must be collaborative and a good communicator who values working outside of the classroom with elementary students.

CSG Summer Programs provide a comprehensive co-educational experience for children from Pre-K through Grade 12, in which children have opportunities to explore many of their educational and extracurricular interests. We have added new and exciting academic enrichment classes that provide opportunities for your child in areas where they may need extra support, and sports camps to develop and perfect their athletic abilities. Our Summer Programs are designed to help students develop new interests and friendships in a fun, stimulating, learning-centered environment blended with challenges and adventures that offer unique, confidence-building educational experiences.

Position Summary:

Develops, organizes, and implements high quality, student-focused aquatic swim lessons. Ensures pool safety, cleanliness, and training standards are met and aligned with CSG Summer Programs, Columbus School for Girls, American Red Cross, and the State of Ohio rules and recommendations. Position will report to the Aquatics Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Thinks, communicates, and behaves as a leader and role model for other staff and students; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Responsible for the safety of every person in the pool, pool area, and locker rooms
  • Creates and leads daily swim classes
  • Maintains high quality of swim instruction
  • Implements student evaluations and parent preview days
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations including being able to lead conversations, delegate, provide oversite, and make decisions
  • Immediately upon hire: American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer; AED, O2 and state-mandated concussion training, Swim Lesson Instructor Certification (WSI performed, YSL accepted)
  • Lifeguarding certification (ARC) preferred but not required
  • Well planned and organized, experienced strategic "Big Picture" thinking, problem solver
  • Knowledge of current swim lesson teaching trends
  • This position requires 20-35 hours/week for 7 weeks
